GRAZING RESERVES IS MODERN WAY OF TACKLING AND SUPPORTING HERDSMEN.

Gov. Murtala Nyako of Adamawa state has voiced his support for the Federal Governmnet's plan to create grazing reserves for Fulani herdsmen.

Gov Nyako said this proposal will reduce clashes between herdsmen and farmers in Nigeria and added that it is a modern way of rearing cattles which will benefit the nomads.

Mr Nyako said moving cattle in search of pasture is old fashion and modern methods include rearing them in fenced reserves which have facilities like boreholes for water and better security, he added that this will guarantee better returns as obtained in developed countries.

He said this is the practice in countries like the United States of America which introduced the policy 1872.

Mr Nyako also added that there is a need for farmers and herdsmen to dialogue more and wants punitive measures for those who encroach farmlands destroying crops.
