The Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil
Defense Corps NSCDC Dr Ade Abolurin, has today paraded some suspected Oil
Pipeline and telecommunications cable vandals
Mr Abolurin said the vandals were arrested
following a joint collaboration between the Department of State Security and
the command and also in a bid to rid the country of criminals.
He also said their actions were wicked and detrimental
to the nations developmental goals and disclosed that in another arrest operation carried out by the command, about 5 illegal gas
trucks were arrested following a tip off from the Department of Petroleum
resources.
However in a bizarre twist during a chat with some of the suspects, they denied the
allegations claiming they are sub-distributors of gas. They say they buy from licensed sellers and sell to independednt gas sellers. One of the suspects Mr Emmanuel Ejiofor-Oko said he has been in the gas business for over 20 years and said investigations can be carried out especially with NIPCO of Lagos to verifyhis details and his claims that he has been their customers for close to 2 decades.
The counsel to the gas tanker drivers Barrister Nnamdi Nweke also affirmed his clients position and said he believes the Department of Petroleum resources misinformed the NSCDC.
Mr Abolurin said the suspects will soon be charged
to court.
