NAFDAC UNVEILS MOBILE WATER MONITORING TOOLKIT

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control NAFDAC has unveiled a mobile water standards testing kit in Abuja.

The Director General of NAFDAC Dr. Paul Orhii said this marks the flagging off of the annual water quality standard monitoring in the country.

Mr Orhii says NAFDAC will go all out to sanitize the production of packaged table water especially sachet water production in order to protect the lives of Nigerians and fulfill its mandatory obligation which the protection of Nigerians irrespective of their position and placement in the society.

He also adds that the mobile kit will be deployed all around the country starting from Lagos state.                       

PEACE CORPS CONDEMNS ATTACK ON COLLEGE STUDENTS BY BOKO HARAM

The Peace Corps of Nigeria has condemned the recent attack on students in a federal government girls college in Yobe state by gunmen suspected to be members of the Boko haram sect.
                                                           
The Commandant of the Corp, Mr Dickson Acho said the attack which took place in a unity school in Buni Yadi, where over 50 students lost their lives is despicable.

Mr Acho said that Boko haram has lost every sense of compassion for whatever cause they claim they are fighting and should be regarded as unfortunate killers over the recent and gruesome murder of young Nigerian students.

He called on the federal government to improve security in schools around the country and not only in areas prone to boko haram attacks because of the sect’s uncanny ability to strike at areas where they are least expected.

NNPC CLAIMS IT IS BEING WRONGLY PORTRAYED TO THE PUBLIC.

The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation NNPC has claimed there are attempts to portray the corporation in bad light.

The Acting Group General Manager Public Affairs of the NNPC Dr. Omar Ibrahim via a Press Release said the presentation by the Nigerian Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative NEITI, at a joint public hearing in the House of Representatives is being misrepresented to the public.

Mr Ibrahim said the representation made by NEITI at the probe hearing of the Berne Declaration Report has been taken out of context by Media organizations.

He said that claims by the press that about 22.8 billion dollars, which is almost 4 trillion naira oil revenue has been discovered to be unremitted are all false.

Mr Ibrahim said that NEITI has been wrongly reported as evidenced by a copy of the NEITI report and presentation, in the hands of the corporation and calls on Nigerians to disregard these claims.

GOVERNOR’S FORUM ACCUSES PRESIDENCY OF BREACHING CONSTITUTION OVER SANUSI LAMIDO’S SUSPENSION

The Nigeria Governor’s Forum has criticized the suspension of the Central Bank of Nigeria Governor, Sanusi Lamido.

The forum led by Governor Chibuike Amaechi of Rivers state said the suspension is a breach of the constitution and the 2007 CBN act and is aimed at distracting Nigerians from current issues bordering on high level corruption in the NNPC.

Governor Amaechi also criticized the refusal by President Goodluck Jonathan to host the National Economic Council meeting. He said the meeting has not held for 7 months and thus deprived stakeholders to discuss the “perilous” state of the Nigerian economy therefore plunging the nation into economic and political crisis.

He also called on the Supreme Court of Nigeria to accelerate hearing on the case of the excess crude account and illegal deductions on oil subsidy.

The forum condemned the killings in the North East and called on the army to increase their efforts in other to put an end to the crisis. It also asked the federal government to wake up to its responsibility and protect lives and properties in the region.

The forum accused the presidency of plotting to impeach the Governor of Nasarawa state, Umaru Tanko Almakura saying this is an assault on constitutional democracy.
